Sam Collins – April, 2016

The month below:

  • 20160419 While not out of the question, a sustainable breakout anytime soon is highly unlikely
    • Trade: IP (long) A spike in a price ratio points to a rally in iShares MSCI Global Silver Miners ETF
      • Close 41.74
  • 20160418 The major indices are once again pushing up against their old highs
    • But if what’s past is prologue, buyers at current prices will not be rewarded.
    • Trade: SLVP (long) A spike in a price ratio points to a rally in iShares MSCI Global Silver Miners ETF
      • Try to buy shares under $9 with a trading target of $14
      • Close 9.60
  • 20160415 The intermediate trend is still up, but the market currently lacks follow-through
    • I agree in that I favor the “upside,” but not now. Buy on pullbacks, not high-P/E advances.
    • Trade: EEM (long) Buying Opportunity Emerging in EEM
      • use limit orders to buy shares under $33 with a target of $40
      • Close 34.77
  • 20160414 Market Pattern is Positive, Though Suspect
    • Trade: AMGN (long) A decline to the 200-day moving average would provide an excellent entry point in Amgen, Inc.
      • I anticipate a pullback to $154. My price objective is $200 within six months.
      • Close 160.06
  • 20160413 Biotech May be Bargain Hunters’ Next Target. Buyers seem to be focused on only the most beaten-down sectors
    • Don’t chase stocks; buy them on double-bottoms and not breakaway tops.
    • Trade: ABX (long) Following a big run, a pullback may offer a good entry point in Barrick Gold Corporation (USA)
      • a retracement below $14 would offer traders an excellent opportunity to purchase shares with a price objective of $20-plus.
      • Close 16.35
  • 20160412 Investors should take notice that miners are behaving better than stocks in other sectors
    • Trade: WPX (long) WPX Energy Inc is high risk, but the chart shows powerful technical developments
      • Try to buy WPX stock at $7 with a trading objective of $8.50
      • Close 7.14
  • 20160411 The important retail sector appears to be in the midst of a massive breakdown
    • Trade: LEA (long) Lear Corp. held at its long-term support line last week, triggering a buy signal
      • Buy LEA stock at $105 with a trading target of $122
      • Close 104.66
  • 20160408 We could see a full 50% retracement of the recent rally
    • And as mentioned, using this method on the S&P 500 yields a downside target of about 1,950
    • Trade: ANTM (long) An inverse head-and-shoulders breakout targets a 17% run in Anthem Inc
      • The target for the inverse head-and-shoulders pattern is $168
      • Close 143.48
  • 20160407 The market’s overall pattern is bullish, but there is a lack of momentum usually present at breakouts
    • I believe stocks will eventually break to new highs. But if they do so this year, it will probably not occur until year end.
    • Trade: MPWR (long) Monolithic Power Systems, Inc. broke from a bullish saucer and is on a buy signal
      • buy MPWR stock at $64 or less with a target of $75
      • Close 63.89
  • 20160406 The angle of advance in the Dow Jones Utility Average was too steep to maintain
    • Now, with the stable Dow Jones Utility Average on the decline, how far will a retreat on the rest of the field take us?
    • Trade: BBY (short) BBY Stock Looks Like a Better Short Than Buy. The recent rally in Best Buy Co Inc failed at the 200-day moving average
      • BBY stock looks to be a good short sale candidate at $32 with a downside target of $28
      • Close 31.22
  • 20160405 Small Caps Stall Out. A strong advance has flattened due to a lack of buyers
    • Because of Fed interference there has been little that has been “usual” about this rally.
    • Trade: GS (long) Traders should buy Goldman Sachs Group Inc on a pullback or a breakout
      • buy GS stock either on a pullback to $154 or a breakout from the bull channel’s high at $160. The trading target is $180
      • Close 157.77
  • 20160404 Major Reversal May be Just Around the Corner
    • However, a new breakdown by the transports followed by a similar break below Friday’s low at 17,568 on industrials would negate the industrials’ recent high. The result could be a quadruple-top and a major reversal.
    • Trade: AMZN (long) Volume in Amazon.com, Inc. has been light, so expect a pullback
      • Expect a pullback to about $575 where AMZN should be bought with a target of $680.
      • Close 598.50
  • 20160401 Stick with only the most fundamentally sound stocks at these levels
    • Our 17-month moving average for the S&P 500 aptly demonstrates the high degree of volatility that stock buyers have endured. I believe that it is telling us to accept this situation as the “new normal.”
    • Trade: PFE (long) Hoax Offers Buying Opportunity in PFE Stock
      • buy PFE stock around $29 with a trading target of $34.
      • Close 29.64
