What We’re Reading Today

Commentary: I’m going to feature a concept that I have been chewing on for a while. The idea is that each revolution in human productivity rising with the industrial revolution has displaced a huge number of workers. People that try and dispel the fear that such job losses create unemployment argue that the technology of the revolution spawns new jobs in new industries that absorb the displaced labour force. While this has been apparently true in recent times, such people miss a key point.

Each technological revolution creates jobs that require a higher level of education/training and skill than the laid off workers have. This has become identifiable in the “knowledge revolution” where the required skill and education levels have moved up to requiring community college or university degrees.

To get an idea of the current state of employment in the US and by inference, Canada and other developed countries, read: Paul Craig Roberts – The Matrix Of Lies And What The Elite Are Really Up To Is Terrifying. In short the government defines the employment rate in a manner that excludes a large number of employable people while burying the fact that a lot of the jobs do not pay a living wage.

To see what’s coming next, read: Rise Of The Machines: Millions Of American Jobs Will Be Wiped Out In The Next Five Years. Government pronouncements of creating jobs are delusional. Bringing in a large immigrant population because we need their skillsdoes not change the current number of unemployed but increases the future number of unemployed when and immigrant lucky to land a job is displaced in the future. Programs like the 35,000 refugees with their education and skill levels simply moves the crisi forward in time.

Finally, the strongest argument supporting the idea of the start of a large permanently unemployed segment of society comes from the nature of the final stage of the industrial revolution that we are now in. The core product of this stage is the creation of labour and service units, growing in sophistication, that will displace large numbers of workers previously thought immune to automation.

Civil Unrest: The MSM urges massive civil disobedience: Time Urges 65 Million Americans Who Voted For Hillary Not To Pay Taxes. Trump will have his hands full as the establishment fights back. You may not like Trump but it will take a person of his strength to try and bring the establishment under the control of the people. It may not be possible leading to scenarios such as civil war, revolution and/or the breakup of the United States. Martin Armstrong’s brief take on Jill Stein: Stein Exploiting the Great Divide between Left & Right Feeding the Cycle of War. France is actually engulfed in daily battles with the migrant hordes: France: Decomposing In Front Of Our Eyes.

Trump team: Meet Donald Trump’s Cabinet (So Far). This pick for EPA head is interesting (read Trump Taps Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt As EPA Head to get the guy’s background). Expect to see carbon pricing dialed back. If that happens, Trudeau, Wynne and Notley will all be offside to Canada’s detriment. Also hot off the press: Trump Picks Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson As Secretary Of State.

Main Stream Media (MSM): Threat to the First Amendment: CNN Boss Admits “Democrats Bigger First Amendment Threat Than Trump”? The bigger threat to the First Amendment comes from the new MSM – the social media giants: Tech Titans Team Up Block “Extremist Content” With Centralized Censorship Database. This is truly scary: a cabal of social media billionaires able to control what is displayed over their platforms. While possibly benign in internet, such things never remain that way long, especially when outside of government – and ostensibly – the public’s control. Here’s more on the issue: This Is the Purge We All Knew Was Coming: “Shutting Down Extremist Content”. Without comment: Leaked Footage Exposes CNN Producing Fake News During First Gulf War.

2017 Predictions: The first set of predictions comes from Zero Hedge which in turn has compiled other sources. It’s a diverse set of scenarios. Bits and Pieces: The following is a topic that I have been following but not reporting on. There is a global move by governments to move to a cashless society. The reason is that this gives the government total control over your money and your spending although the official reason given is to fight crime. By creating a cashless society, the government can prevent a run on banks in a currency crisis (which is coming). We have seen how the government executed bail-ins in Cyprus and in Greece, the limitation of daily withdrawals from banks and ATMs. In a cashless society this is as easy as pressing a button. Sweden has announced it is heading in this direction but India beat them to it: India Confiscates Gold, Even Jewelry, in Raids on Hidden Money.

On another note, what is Obama up to: Obama Orders Intelligence Community To Conduct “Full Review” Of 2016 Election Results, Keep Results Secret? Is Michael Moore prescient: Michael Moore Warns “Something Crazy Could Happen To Stop Trump Becoming President”? There seems to be a strong push from the democrats and their sympathizers like Lindsay Graham to create a scenario for Russian involvement in the election such that Obama can nullify it and award it to Hillary because she won the popular vote. It’ll be interesting. And why is Obama doing this: US Sends 200 More Troops To Syria Days After Obama Lifts Ban On Arms Supplies To Rebels? Let’s add these two late pieces: Republicans Slam CIA ‘Secret’ Report: “What Proof Does Anyone Have? …I’ve Heard Zero” and A “Soft Coup” Attempt: Furious Trump Slams “Secret” CIA Report Russia Helped Him Win. Despite Trump’s attempt to make up with Obama, Obama carries a huge grudge that when Trump is finished his major legacy will be his golf handicap.
