Bits and Pieces – 20170614 – Wednesday

Commentary: Here is a must-watch half hour video by George Friedman. He presents the best succinct description of key geopolitical issues that I can recall: the position of Russia, the problems in the EU, the Middle east with Turkey in a pivotal role, where China stands: Crisis & Chaos: Are We Moving Toward World War III?

Turn off CNN, NBC, CBC and the rest of the MSM and spend the time listening to this a second time. He brilliantly summarizes all you need to know about the issues driving the important events of today and tomorrow. If on the other hand you’d feel more comfortable watching a telethon, turn on CTV.

Bits and Pieces – 20170528, Sunday

Commentary: Question of the day, when the pot calls the kettle black, is the pot black? For the answer: Obama Administration Intervened in Canadian, British, and French elections. 🙂

Civil Unrest: A note on Neil Howe’s Fourth Turning: The Fourth Turning’s Neil Howe Warns: We Are In The 1930s, “Winter Is Coming”.

The Deep State: From a friend, we received this wonderful summery of the events that form the basis of the soft coup in progress in progress in the US: Regime Change by Any Other Name? And Trump is starting to fight back: Amid Russia Crisis, Trump Prepares “War Room”, “Big White House Changes”, Loss Of Twitter.

WWIII: There has not been a lot of news on the North Korean fromt other than a couple of successful ballistic missile tests (make that 3 counting today’s) since my predicted start of war on Apr. 25. The latter as much a result of incomplete information to base a deduction on. More recently the US added a second carrier strike group and today we learn a third is on the way: US Deploys Third Aircraft Carrier Toward North Korea. Why so much fire power? As I recall, a single strike group launched the Iraq war.

The American Empire (AE): A month in the life of the foreign legions: US On Track To Kill More Syrian Civilians Than Russia For 5th Straight Month.

Climate: Here’s an excellent article on glaciers in the Holocene which shows how variable the climate has been over the last ten thousand years: Nature Unbound III – Holocene climate variability (Part B). The takeaway is that the debate on climate change or global warming or whatever the current fashionable progressive term is is woefully limited and short-sighted.

Bits and Pieces:  Canada corner: The Toronto real estate bubble may have popped:  All Hell Breaks Loose In Toronto’s House Price Bubble. A little hyperbole but there are threads here that may cascade into a major financial crisis. Here’s an article on Canadian house prices: New Home Prices Are Over 50% Higher In Canada Than The US.

Not my problem: Global Pension Underfunding Will Hit Nearly Half A Quadrillion Dollars In 2050. Long, long before 2050, fundamental aspects of this problem will have been dealt with. In fact each year we go on ballooning central bank balance sheets and credit market debt at all levels is one year of grace before financial Armageddon.

I wonder what the fallout of this will be: “You Tricked Me” – Trump Reportedly Rages At Palestine’s Abbas For ‘Lying To Him’?

Bits and Pieces – 20170226, Sunday

Commentary: Building on the the theme I started in Bits and Pieces – 20170224, Friday, the idea of a massive loss of service jobs, particularly in retailing, I would add this video from Gordon long today, LONGWave – 02 08 17 – FEBRUARY – A Rapidly Rupturing Retail Reality, in which he chronicles the collapse of bricks and mortar retaining in North America. Those retailing jobs are gone replaced by online retailing served by massive fulfillment centers as shown in the video Friday and in earlier clips for which I had posted links (but can’t find).

I had referenced two predictions that March 15 would usher in a period of chaos in financial markets. I realized today as I read another forecast from David Stockman that March 15th is the Ides of March. Should we pay attention to Caesar’s wife: Stockman: “After March 15 Everything Will Grind To A Halt”? Related to this is an article by Niel Howe (The Fourth Turning) in which he summarizes the generational cycle theory that he and William Strauss put forward in their book: “Welcome To The Next Awakening” – Author Of Steve Bannon’s Worldview Explains The Path Ahead. He places our current time in this framework and there is the suggestion that it is a philosophy that Steve Bannon is aware of.
