To start with, a bit of humour, here is Sylvia Shawcross’ analysis of Carney’s speaking characteristics: The Blarney and The Carney. Moving on, I want to review NATO and the recent NATO summit held in the Hague.
A Brief Background on NATO
NATO was created in 1949 at the beginning of the cold war era to counter the Warsa Pact Alliance of the USSR. It was created as a purely defensive institution as is seen by its charter. Of the 14 articles of the treaty, the most widely known is article 5 which almost no one has read. Here is article 5 which should be read with article 6 (emphasis added).
Article 5
The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.
Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security .
Article 6
For the purpose of Article 5, an armed attack on one or more of the Parties is deemed to include an armed attack:
- on the territory of any of the Parties in Europe or North America, on the Algerian Departments of France 2, on the territory of Turkey or on the Islands under the jurisdiction of any of the Parties in the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer;
- on the forces, vessels, or aircraft of any of the Parties, when in or over these territories or any other area in Europe in which occupation forces of any of the Parties were stationed on the date when the Treaty entered into force or the Mediterranean Sea or the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer.
I would point out that at one point Putin approached NATO for membership but was effectively discouraged (look it up). The US virtually runs NATO, at least into the Trump era. NATO has been the US’ foreign legion.
When Canada bombed Libya in 2011, I member trying to find where the authorization for committing an act of war against another country came from. I never found out. Presumably we did it as a NATO member but this shows the danger of NATO. I’m not aware that our current act of war against Russia using Ukraine as a proxy has had parliamentary approval. In this case we do not have the cover of the NATO charter.
With the dissolution of the USSR and the Warsaw Pact in 1991, NATO lost its raison d’être. However, having become a large bureaucracy, it sought to find new meaning in today’s world. Most of its recent actions have become offensive rather than defensive as in Libya and Afghanistan. And some agents are agitating to include Asian nations (read Americans Must Oppose the Establishment of an East Asian NATO).
The Recent NATO Summit in the Hague
This summit saw Carney participating. Carney is at the very left-hand end of the front row in the official picture. As the article says , members – and that would include Canada – pledged to increase defence-related spending to 5% of GDP. Easy when you have no budget and no one has a clue of where the money will come from.
Although NATO has disavowed the entrance of Ukraine to the alliance, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was featured in a rather contradictory move since Ukraine is not to become a member as NATO had wished in the past. The summit is discussed more extensively in the article 2025 NATO Summit: Historic Push for 5% Defence and Military Buildup. Here’s How It Happened. Here is an image from the article.

Carney is in the third row, 2 persons over to the left of the lady in yellow and looking off to his right (why when everyone else is looking straight forward). Zelensky is in the 2nd row, black shirt, 2nd person to the right of the lady in yellow.
Comment
Canada has no real enemies except those that it is in the process of creating like Russia and China. Neither is looking for a fight. There is no rationale for Canada to be in NATO except to try and maintain some appearance of prestige.
I would remind readers that Ukraine is not in NATO. As such, there is no obligation on Canada’s part to support Ukraine in its war with Russia. Canada’s continuing support for the war against Russia including money, equipment and munitions could validly be viewed by Russia as an act of aggression and war. Since several European countries are preparing publicly for war against Russia in 2029, Canada will be in that war if we remain in NATO.
The Canadian Economy
Keeping in mind that while Carney has been actively making multi-billion dollar commitments, he has refused to produce any budget as Parliament requested (Liberals won’t table budget or fiscal update before summer). As a result, we have no idea what our fiscal situation is. If you are worried that it is really bad, you are justified (read: Canada’s Deficit Could Average $78 Billion Over 4 Years as Finances ‘Deteriorate’: Think Tank).
Carney’s profligate spending and operating without a budget, suggests gross incompetence, especially for someone who has headed a multi-billion dollar investment corporation, has headed two central banks, and has a PhD in economics from Oxford. He should be terminated immediately.
The Green Economy
EVs
The purchase mandates for EVs that the government has implemented are finally drawing attention (read: Top Automaker CEOs Ask Carney to End EV Mandate). In 2026 when the 20% threshold is implemented, we may start seeing disturbances in a currently smoothly operating auto market, particularly over price. When consumers can’t buy the car they want, at least at a reasonable price, they will wake up fast.
David S. (@DavidSimieritsch) has the YouTube channel “Moose on the Loose“. In the following video (18:40 minutes) he exposes all of the connections between the EV technologies that Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) is making money on. And we know that Carney has at least $6.8 million in options and unknown stock holdings in BAM.
Green Hydrogen
In The Carney Chronicles: Ep7, Carney on Tariffs, Taxes, and Stuff I wrote a note titled “The Left Trying to Make Sense”. It featured one of their latest buzz words, “decarbonise”. They have demonstrated a profound capability of stringing together vague concepts and slogans to create ever more idiotic ideas.
The Green Hydrogen idea (GH) is to produce hydrogen which can then be burnt as a fuel for energy production with no CO2 produced. The problem lies in the production of hydrogen which does not occur naturally in a free state. The traditional means of production is called electrolysis which uses electricity and a catalyst to break down water into its natural components of hydrogen and oxygen. You probably did this in high school science class.
The hydrogen from electrolysis can be burned to generate electricity but the amount produced is less than the amount required to produce the hydrogen burned. Otherwise we would have free power and perpetual motion machines.
Another process that I found is the BrightLoop™ Chemical Loopingtechnology of Babcocks & Wilcox. It requires a carbon fuel as input, producing CO2 and hydrogen as outputs. It is a multi-stage process making the energy cost analysis complex. The cost of sequestering the CO2 has to be added into the equation.
Comment
The GH paradigm uses more energy than it produces. How much more depends on the technology steps involved, but must include the input energy cost of the technology infrastructure-itself.
Our current motive technology paradigm is that of the fossil fuel combustion engine. It includes billion dollar refineries, pipeline networks, and an entire infrastructure for the transport, distribution and retail of gasoline and diesel fuel. Our entire fleet of retail and commercial vehicles would likely be scrapped due to the complexity and cost of conversion.
The main selling feature is the possibility of using “renewables” to produce it. The problem here is that such energy is unreliable in its production and is a small percentage of global energy production requirements.
Lastly, we are struggling to roll out EVs. Why try and introduce GH at the same time? Unfortunately, GH is the new buzz word that is easy to throw around without any understanding of the feasibility and cost associated with it.
Bill C-4
For those interested, this bill apparently repeals the carbon tax on fossil fuels for consumers but not industry. Be the first to analyze the changes and report back.
The Alberta and Saskatchewan File
Smith and Ford have come together behinds Smith’s infrastructure thrust to promote her ideas, something that Ontario needs for its security (Line 5 threats, read: Updates on the Fight to Shut Down Enbridge Line 5) and economic benefit (read: Alberta, Ontario Send Letter to Ottawa Demanding Rollback of Trudeau-Era Climate Policies).
On another front, Smith is moving ahead with the creation of an Alberta police force (read: Alberta Appoints Former Calgary Officer as Chief of New Provincial Police Force). Apart from gaining better police services than they get from the RCMP, it makes separation one step easier.
Pipelines and Decarbonized Oil
The road to building a new pipeline will be a rocky one for Smith (read: Ottawa Tying New Pipeline to Industry Demand That Its Own Policies Stifled, Alberta’s Smith Says. Carney may have cabinet members who oppose all new pipelines. However;Carney may support them if they carry ” decarbonized” oil.
There are technologies than can take CO2 and “sequester” or store it in some form including simply storing it underground as in an abandoned salt mine. There are companies that do this, performing no useful work but generating “carbon credits” corresponding to how much CO2 that they sequester. Some use large fans that draw in air and remove the CO2 in the air by chemical means.
A barrel of oil, a defined quantity, can be associated with the amount of CO2 that would be created by burning the oil. The carbon credits that the storage companies create are sold to the oil and gas companies that extract fossil fuels. If such companies buy carbon credits corresponding to the equivalent sequestered CO2 per barrel of oil that they produce, the oil is considered to be carbon neutral or decarbonized.
There are markets for trading carbon credits that have made people like Al Gore very rich. It’s a massive scam that is kept very quiet.
So who are these companies that sequester CO2? David S. has a software tool that allows him to graphically display information and has used it to capture many of the key players in the “green economy” in Canad that deal with “green” technology. BAM owns at least 6 such companies that sequester CO2 as David has found out.
The Problem
Putting it all together, Smith wants another pipeline to ship a million barrels of oil a day to foreign markets. If the carbon credits required to decarbonize that oil come from BAM companies, Carney personally will make money on each barrel. Almost anything that Carney wants to implement in the green economy might be satisfied by a BAM company. It will be too easy to ensure that contracts go to BAM companies, personally enriching Carney.
