The Garabandal Prophecies

There are a few prophecies that the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) accepts as authentic such as the fatima prophecies. From 1961 to 1965, a group of four Spanish girls, Conchita González, María Dolores Mazón, Jacinta González, and María Cruz González, received a many visitations of the Blessed Virgin who gave a number of prophetic messages.

The RCC does not accord them the status of the Fatima prophecies but does not reject them. Padre Pio, however, considered them to be authentic. To this end, he was in communication with the girls as witnessed by this letter: THE ORIGINAL LETTER OF PADRE PIO TO THE SEERS OF GARABANDAL.

The most important site on the internet for Garabandal information that I could find is in Italy, Garabandal and in the US, Garabandal.

Introduction to the Visitations and Prophecies

The Virgin Mary appeared to the children collectively and individually a couple of thousand times from 1961 to 1965. Most of the visitations, either individually or collectively, appear to be personal instruction, guidance and encouragement. There are ,however , specific messages intended for the world to hear.

In a cursory investigation I could not find the prophecies written as singular documents or statements. Rather they seem to be fragments recorded over time from the girls’ memories or recorded in a diary. In the following video (4:49 minutes) they are briefly described.

I originally came across the prophecies through the following Dr. Taylor Marshall podcast (47:49 minutes):

He focuses on the ‘Three Popes’ prophecy which I describe in a later section. He also mentions other of the prophecies such as that many “Cardinals, bishops, and priests” would fall away to their damnation. He also answers some viewer comments, the last of which is regarding Glenn Hudson. Hudson is a friend of Conchita.

This lead to the next video, an interview with Glenn Hudson (1:37:47 minutes). The interview is worth listening to in its entirety because of all the small details that come out in it.

Key Prophecies

Of all the conversations between the children and Mary, five prophecies stand out, the order of popes, the “Warning” the “Miracle”, and the “Chastisement”.

1. The Three Popes

Among the messages is a prophecy by Conchita, at the death of Pope John XXIII, that there would be three popes to come and then the start of a new epoch. Fr. Francois Turner in The Prophecy of the Three Popes discusses the prophecy in some detail. He is counting Pope John Paul I as one of the popes but other sources do not count him due to his short reign.

After His Holiness Paul VI, there will be only two more popes before the end of the present period (el fin de los tiempos) which is not the end of the world. The Blessed Virgin told me so, but I do not know what that means.

Since the original prophecy, there has been Pope Paul VI, John Paul I (33 days and is not counted), John Paul II, and Benedictine XVI.

It remains to consider whether the new epoch began with the resignation of Bennedict or his death. I believe it is the latter.

2. The Visit to Russia and Ensuing Hostilities

Conchita said that

The Pope will go to Russia, to Moscow. As soon as he returns to the Vatican, hostilities will break out in different parts of Europe.

In the interview with Glenn Hudson above, the proposed visit is discussed in detail. It has yet to happen and is one of the conditions for official approval of the prophecies by the RCC.

3. The Warning

The Warning otherwise known as the Illumination of Conscience is an event that will be global in scope and experienced by every living person. All their sins of commission and omission will be revealed to each person. It will be the last opportunity for you to repent and correct that which has been revealed to you. It will be a warning of the end times.

The Blessed Virgin told me (during a two-hour apparition at the pines January 1, 1965) that a warning would be given before the miracle. The warning is a thing that comes directly from God. No one can escape it. It will be visible all over the world. We will feel it bodily and interiorly. The warning is like a chastisement, a terrifying thing for the good as well as for the wicked. It will be like a revelation of our sins. We shall see the consequences of the sins we have committed. God will send the warning to purify us so that we may better appreciate the miracle by which He clearly proves His love for us and hence His desire that we fulfill the message. The warning will draw the good closer to God and it will warn the wicked that the end of time is coming.

4. The Great Miracle

The Great Miracle is an event that will occur on a Thursday evening at 8:30 Spanish time in spring of a year to be announced by Conchita 8 days in advance. It will be at the pine grove in Garabandal but visible from a distance. Conchita describes some of its aspects:

I am the only one to whom the Blessed Virgin spoke of the Miracle. She forbade me to say what it will consist of. I can’t announce the date either until eight days before it is due to occur. What I can reveal is that it will coincide with an event in the Church and with the feast of a saint, martyr of the Eucharist; that it will take place at 8:30 on a Thursday evening; that it will be visable to all those who are in the village and surrounding mountains; that the sick who are present will be cured and the incredulous will believe. It will be the greatest miracle that Jesus will have performed for the world. There won’t be the slightest doubt that it comes from God and that it is for the good of mankind. A sign of the Miracle—un señal del milagro—which it will be possible to film or televise, will remain forever—para siempre—at the pines.”

On September 14, 1965, Conchita said: “The sign that will remain forever at the pines is something we will be able to photograph, televise and see, but not touch. It will be evident that it is not a thing of this world but from God.” At another time, concerning the Great Miracle, she added that, “it would last about 15 minutes.”

On August 10, 1971, while talking to a group of Americans, she offered this revealing information: “It will take place on or between the eighth and sixteenth of March, April or May. It will not happen in February or June.”

5. The Chastisement

The ‘Chastisement’ is mentioned in the context of some of the conversations with Mary as a warning that may or may not happen depending on how people respond to the warning. It’s nature is not described but a writer, Rev. Francois Turner, discusses the meaning of the term in detail in Chastisement.

Two messages were given related to the Chastisement.

The First Message – October 18th, 1961

We must make many sacrifices, do much penance, and visit the Blessed Sacrament frequently. But first, we must lead good lives. If we do not, a chastisement will befall us. The cup is already filling up, and if we do not change, a very great chastisement will come upon us.

The Second Message – June 18th, 1965

As my message of October 18th has not been fulfilled and has not been made known to the world, I tell you that this is my last message. Before, the cup was filling up. Now, it is overflowing. Many cardinals, many bishops, and many priests are on the road to perdition and are taking many souls with them. Less and less importance is being given to the Eucharist. You should turn the wrath of God away from yourselves by your efforts. If you ask for His forgiveness with sincere hearts, He will forgive you.I, your Mother, through the intercession of Saint Michael the Archangel, ask you to amend your lives. You are now receiving the last warnings. I love you very much and do not want your condemnation. Pray to us with sincerity, and we will grant your requests. You should make more sacrifices. Meditate on the passion of Jesus.

Thoughts on These Prophecies

In my recent posts The Vatican and the Death Of Pope Benedict XVI: Part 1 and The Vatican and the Death Of Pope Benedict XVI: Part 2 , I suggested that if we consider Benedict the Katechon, his death marks a new era of evil in the world and in the church. I didn’t explicitly call it a new epoch or era but that is the implication. It fits nicely with the Garabandal prophecies.

I have done considerable research on events around the Ukraine conflict. Russia is going for complete victory. I see a problem with defeat: Ukrainian Nazis fleeing into Roumania and Poland and trying to conduct a guerrilla war from those countries. This will create hostility between Russia and those countries and by Article 5 of NATO, other European states. The Balkans are also ready to explode so the prophesied conflicts certainly have a high potential, particularly as WWIII.

We should know before the year’s out. The Warning will be unmistakable when it occurs.
