The Ukrainian incursion into the Kursk region of Russia caught everyone by surprise except possibly the Americans. US satellite data which has been used by the Ukrainians throughout the war may have been essential for planning the operation. My sources suggest Ukraine may have staged this attack for PR and morale boosting purposes. They may also have wanted to seize Russian territory for peace negotiations. The fallacy with this idea is that the Russians will not consider peace until every last Ukrainian soldier has been driven out or taken out in a body bag. The latter is more likely.
Other news from today:
- US Arms-Makers Warily Consider Production In Ukraine At Pentagon’s Urging. The war will be over before these factories could be built.
- The Pentagon Refuses To Rule Out Strikes On Moscow In Shocking Exchange On Ukraine’s Incursion Into Kursk. If a US ATACM missile where to be used against Moscow, Putin’s patience may wear out.
- US Will Lift Ban On Offensive Weapons Sales To Saudi Arabia. Not a Ukraine issue but ot is regional escalation, especially if the Saudis are American allies.
