This series of short takes on particular topics was designed to capture what I consider are important developments on a short term or daily basis.

It was a couple of months ago that Macron announced that France would send military personnel to the Ukraine, This was done to a small degree but he backed down from escalating this initiative. Yesterday, however, the US advanced the idea by announcing that private military contractors (PMCs) will be sent to the Ukraine (read: The US’ Reported PMC Plan For Ukraine Amounts To A Partial Conventional Intervention). The US and other countries including Russia have used PMCs for years, notably in Afghanistan. They are effectively part of a country’s military but not in uniform.

Russia has made it clear that they will strike any foreign group that engages in front-line fighting whether in or out of uniform. Notably, they took out an estimated 70 French mercenaries PMCs in a stike on a building understood to be housing them. Today we know that over the last year or two, the Russians have killed several NATO military personnel including a Polish general in targeting Ukrainian command and control installations.

These deaths have never made the news or have been covered up by false stories. The real danger is the US reaction when the number of body bags coming home can no longer be hidden from the public.

Surveillance Drones – a Developing Issue

Those of you following the Military Summary channel on YouTube will understand the correlation of US Reaper “Global Hawk” drone flights with attacks on Crimea and Russian assets. The Russians have had enough of this after recent attacks: Moscow Threatens Action Against Heightened US Spy Drone Activity.

A separate note that I didn’t save the link for says NATO will protect future drone flights with an escort of two fighter jets.
